This opening par 4 is a great introduction to the Legends and what players can expect for the rest of round. With a fairway bunker and water guarding the entire right side, players will be forced to place their tee shot left of the bunker or carry their tee shot beyond the bunker, leaving a short iron to this split green. Accuracy in your approach shot is vital in finding an opening birdie or par.
The second hole is a straight forward par 4. With a bunker and out of bounds defending the right side of the fairway, a usual north Saskatchewan wind will defend the approach shot to the green. This green like the first, features another spine running length wise which will make any 2 putt par a great score.
The longest par 3 at the Legends, the third hole is going to leave most golfers testing their mental and physical strength. With little trouble in front of the green, players will have to judge the wind correctly to find a piece of this large, pushed up green. Leaving your tee shot long will leave most golfers with a challenging downhill chip from the thick prairie fescue. Most days, bogey will be a great score while par will feel like you stole a shot.
With the first real birdie chance, this par 5 allows golfers to blast their tee shot either down the middle or cut a little bit off of this dogleg left. However, any tee shot too far left will end up wet and leave players scrambling for par. With the Legends cliffs abundant on the right side of the hole, players will have to keep their second shots long and straight. With an approach to a pushed up green, be mindful of the bunkers guarding the front and back of this green.
Playing 429 yards from the back tees, this par 4 gives golfers a chance to breath with very little hazards throughout the hole. A slight dog leg right, players will find much solace in finding the fairway as heavy rough and symbolic Legend cliffs line the entire right side of this hole. Many players will stay far away from the greenside bunker guarding the right side of the green, leaving the left side gathering most of the approach shots.
The second par 5 gives players a chance to make up that shot or two lost on the previous holes. With a tee shot finding this generous fairway, players will have the option to reach this green in two or attack the flag with an accurate wedge shot. However, any "less than perfect" approach shot will leave players in a fairway bunker 30 yards short of the green or wet with water guarding the back portion of the green.
Instead of length being the primary challenge, this par 3 offers players a chance to challenge their short game ability. At a glance, this hole offers a waste bunker that quickly turns into a water hazard that creeps ever so close to the front right of this green. Not to be fooled, this 3 tiered green can turn an easy 2 putt par into a coldblooded 3 putt bogey.
With bunkers placed strategically within the fairway and 150 yards from the green, players will need to find the fairway with their tee shot or be prepared to test their long bunker play. Once in play, an approach shot to this par 4 elevated green will need to be precise as a deep pot bunker guards the middle the green which will give players fits in finding par.
Amongst the bunkers on the left and right side of the fairway, a good tee shot will be rewarded with less than 150 yard approach shot to this heavily guarded green. Of course, the first challenge is to rid the thought of leaving your tee shot in any of the aforementioned bunkers. Players will find comfort in hitting this par 4 green in regulation and bypassing the large bunker and water guarding the entire right half of the green. Of course, par will be a great score to conclude the first 9 holes.
Welcome to the teeth of the Legends Golf Club. Players hoping to improve from the first 9 holes are in for a rude awakening as water outlines the entire left side of this sloping par 4 fairway. Rolling hills will make for uneven lies for any approach shot to this elevated green. A two putt par will start you off on the right track, but now is no time to relax.
At 462 yards, this will play as the longest par 4 at the Legends. This monster of a hole will leave little to the imagination as two long straight shots must be played to reach this green in two. Players must also be cautious of the water that begins in the corner of this dogleg left. A bunker behind the green will catch any long approaches leaving the front the green receptacle to shots using a long iron or fairway wood.
After the 10th and 11th hole, players will be able to make up for any lost strokes on this par 5. After a well struck tee shot, the term "risk/ reward" will be coined for this next shot. Risk going for the green in two and players will be rewarded with a chance for eagle. However, a slight mishit will leave players either in the three bunkers guarding the green, in deep thick rough or on the wrong side of the well-known Legend cliffs that will block players view to the green.
Another bomber's delight, this par 4 puts the "grip it and rip it" theory into everyone's game. With bunkers within the 150 yard maker, players will have the green light to fly it over the bunkers, leaving themselves a great chance at making birdie. Of course, anything less than the ideal approach shot and players could find their next shot out of any of the three bunkers surrounding this less than average sized green.
Visually, this par 3 offers an assortment of obstacles to irritate any golfer. With water guarding the left side of the green, players will also notice the large bunker ready for any shot that travels beyond this large green. Once finding this green, players will have to judge their weight correctly and make 2 good putts and run away with par.
Another long par 4, golfers will rely on their driver distance rather than their accuracy. A dogleg right and plenty of room left, players will be able to miss the bunkers on the right and set themselves up for long to mid iron shot to this raised green. With a bunker left, players will have a good opportunity to run their approach shot up to the middle of the green.
With plenty of room left, 3 fairway bunkers protect the right side of this generous fairway. With the 150 yard markers well back of the bunkers, players can easily reach this elevated par 4 green in regulation with a mid to short iron. With no greenside bunkers or hazards protecting this elevated green, players will have an excellent chance at making birdie.
A mixture of water, thick fescue and a large waste bunker can all be evaded by a great fairway wood or long iron tee shot to this par 3. However, with the round coming to a close, this could be the hole that makes or breaks an exceptional round. With water protecting the front right of the green, golfers will have a chance to hit this green by running up a tee shot that will find the middle of the green. With dense fescue surrounding the green, a par will go a long way in reaching the final hole.
Considered by many to be the signature hole of the Legends, this par 5 will typically play down wind, thus giving many a chance for birdie or better. With water lining the entire left side of the hole, fairway bunkers will add to the challenge of this tee shot. With plenty of room right, players will need to choose the right club for the next shot. Laying up to the narrow 100 yard marker will leave players with a great opportunity at birdie. Reaching this green in 2 will require plenty of length and accuracy as a large fairway bunker 50 yards short of the green and a greenside bunker will collect any mishit attempt. Give the gallery something to cheer about as you sink your finally putt and remember your great round at the Legends.
